An interesting lightweight affair has been added to March’s UFC 299.

Per an addition to the fight card on the promotion’s official website, ex-155lb champ Rafael dos Anjos (32-15) will face Mateusz Gamrot at the event, expected to take place in Miami, FL on March 9, 2024.

Promotion officials have yet to officially announce the venue or location.

dos Anjos, who has also competed as a welterweight, is coming off a loss to fellow Brazilian Vicente Luque, and is 1-2 in his last three. UFC 299 will mark his first fight at 155lbs since a 2022 loss to Rafael Fiziev, after which he moved back up to welterweight, splitting a pair of fights with Bryan Barberena and Luque.

Mateusz Gamrot, a Polish double-champ in KSW, has landed with a splash in the UFC, winning six of his first eight fights. He holds victories over Jeremy Stephens, Arman Tsarukyan, Jalin Turner, and Rafael Fiziev. Gamrot has won his last two bouts.

Rafael dos Anjos is currently ranked #11 in the lightweight division, while Gamrot sits at #6. Despite the distance between the pair in the promotion’s official rankings, the booking still has the feeling of a “changing of the guard” fight.

UFC 299 is anticipated to be headlined by a bantamweight title fight, as Sean O’Malley faces off in a rematch with Marlon “Chito” Vera. The following match-ups have been reported for the event:

  • Sean O’Malley (c) vs. Marlon Vera — for the UFC bantamweight championship
  • Katlyn Chookagian vs. Maycee Barber
  • Curtis Blaydes vs. Jailton Almeida
  • Mateusz Gamrot vs. Rafael dos Anjos
  • Pedro Munhoz vs. Kyler Phillips
  • Lauren Murphy vs. Karine Silva
