Kelvin Gastelum Say Welterweight Is His Division

Austin, TX – UFC welterweight Kelvin Gastelum makes his return to 170-pounds against Sean Brady at UFC Austin on Saturday.

“We that we had to work to get the weight down and obviously get the skill sessions as well. It was really 50-50,” Gastelum told reporters on Wednesday about his camp.

After spending some time at middleweight and having mixed result Gastelum returns to the division that made him a name.

“I haven’t felt this great in years, I haven’t been this skinny in years, and I haven’t been this lean in years,” he said.

For his first fight back at 170 he draws Sean Brady who has been out for over a year. Following an injury that took him out of a matchup with Jack Della Maddalena he makes his way back to the octagon against Gastelum.

“This is a guy that I wanted to fight. We chose somebody in the top 10. I said I want to fight Sean Brady. This is a tough guy, guy in the top 10, a guy that people like to see fight,” Gastelum said.

“I figured this would be a good first test back at 170.”

Now the question is will Gastelum remain at 170-pounds. He’s had issues making weight before, which sparked the move to 185, but being back now will he be able to sustain the cuts.

“This has always been my division, right? I had success at middleweight so I stayed there. Stayed complacent. It didn’t workout for me at the end so I had to get out of my comfort zone a little bit,” he said.

“Dedicate to my diet a little bit more. This has always been my rightful weight class.”
