Ian Garry Upset He Won’t Get To Finish Neal, Excited To Face Magny In Boston

Boston, MA – Seems like UFC welterweight Ian Garry just keeps winning just days after losing out on his original opponent at UFC 292 he gets the fight he originally wanted when Neil Magny stepped in to face him on short notice on Saturday night.

“This is the thing with the fight game. It’s infuriating at times. When you look at the welterweight division you have three fights pull out in the last couple of weeks,” Garry told reporters including Cageside Press on Wednesday.

“You had Geoff Neal pull out. You had Wonderboy’s opponent Michel Pereira pull out, and you’ve had Sean Brady pull out. It’s part of the fight game. It’s infuriating, it’s upsetting for the fans because the fans initially buy into something and then it doesn’t happen.”

Garry was originally set to face Neal in Boston, but Neal was forced to pull out just days ago.

“Look, I’m upset with the change of opponent because I wanted to finish Geoff Neal the way I knew I was going to finish him. I feel like the fans deserve that finish,” he said.

“Now I’ve got another guy. #11 in the world. I’m still going to go out there and finish him. I’m still going to go out there and do it in a beautiful, spectacular fashion, but I feel like the fans are being robbed of something they were excited about.”

Magny was the original call out that Garry has been making for a while now. So even though Garry lost out on fighting Neal he actually ends up getting what he originally wanted in Magny.

“You’ve just got to operate in full faith, do you, and let the world work itself around you. At the end of the day all I have to do is show up. Doesn’t matter who is in that octagon against me, or where it is, as long as I show up and do what I do best there’s no one that can beat me,” Garry said.

“He was the guy I called out in the first place. I was ready for #8 (Neal) in the world, I was excited to beat #8 in the world. Now I’m fighting #11 in the world. I’m still excited because, at the end of the day, this brings me into the top 10.”
