Conor McGregor, 2016 — UFC 205, with Apologies to Nobody
You may be thinking “that’s not a heel promo, that’s just Conor.” But to some extent, all good heels just amplify themselves. And let’s not forget that Conor admittedly stole the billionaire strut directly from Vince McMahon — who, coincidentally, now sits above even Dana White under the Endeavor family tree.
After winning a second title at UFC 205 in New York in 2016, McGregor was irate that the promotion didn’t have two titles ready to present him with. After all, he’d just become the first simultaneous double-champ in UFC history.
“They should have had them two belts ready, spit shined for me!” McGregor hollered. But the heel promo really took off after that.
“I’ve spent a lot of time Joe, slaying everybody in the company. Backstage, I’m starting fights with everybody, I’ve ridiculed everybody on the roster,” exclaimed the Irish superstar. “I just want to say from the bottom of my heart, I’d like to take this chance to apologize… to absolutely nobody! The double-champ does what the f*ck he wants!”
Like any good heel, whether you loved or hated McGregor, you tuned in.
