ONE Championship is bringing former double-champ Aung La N Sang along for the ride when they make their U.S. debut in Broomfield, Colorado this May.

On Thursday, promotion officials announced that “The Burmese Python” would face China’s Fan Rong at the event, set for May 5, 2023 at the 1stBank Center.

MMA Junkie was first to report news of the booking.

Aung La (29-13, 1NC) has won his last two bouts, defeating former UFC title challenger Yushin Okami in November, then returning in January to stop Gilberto Galvao. Both fights ended inside the distance via TKO.

The 37-year old, who has competed as both a middleweight and light heavyweight in ONE, trains will Kill Cliff FC (formerly Sanford MMA). He held gold in ONE Championship from 2017 to 2020, when Reinier de Ridder captured both the middleweight and light heavyweight titles in back-to-back fights.

Rong (19-3) had a two fight win streak snapped in his last outing, when he took on former ONE middleweight champion Vitaly Bigdash. Overall, Rong is 2-2 in the promotion to date.

Aung La N Sang and Fan Rong were originally expected to face off earlier this month, with Rong pulling out of the fight after being diagnosed with COVID-19. The Chinese middleweight was subsequently replaced by Galvao.

ONE Championship’s U.S. debut is set to air on Amazon Prime Video on May 5, 2023, with the rubber match in the trilogy between Demetrious Johnson and Adriano Moraes headlining the card. The following bouts have been reported for the event thus far:

  • Demetrious Johnson (c) vs. Adriano Moraes – for the ONE flyweight championship
  • Sage Northcutt vs. Ahmed Mujtaba
  • Stamp Fairtex vs. Alyse Anderson
  • Aung La Nsang vs. Fan Rong
