UFC 282: Dricus Du Plessis Details How Till Fight Came About

Las Vegas, NV – UFC middleweight Dricus Du Plessis has finally arrived on the main card of a PPV when he takes on Darren Till at UFC 282 on Saturday night.

“Finally I got that main card. Well I guess it was by a default. Something had to happen, but I was like…I think it was an inside joke for the UFC after a while. I was like come on why are you guys doing this put up three amazing performances, still on the undercard, but no here I am. The universe works the way it should,” Du Plessis told Cageside Press among other media on Wednesday.

“The plan’s already been written, and here I am on the main card of this massive final pay-per-view event. I can’t wait to go out there and perform on the main card.”

Du Plessis (17-2) has fought on two numbered UFC events, but never the main card.

“Good fortune on myself, no ill will on somebody else, but how it works out that’s not up to me,” he laughed.

Standing opposite of him will be Till (18-4-1) who, after a sky rocketing rise up the ranks in the UFC, has fallen on hard times lately losing 4 of his las 5 in the octagon.

“There was a little bit of talks. It was weird how this fight played out. I got a call before the September event, I don’t know if a lot of people know this, but…so I got a call saying ‘Listen, will you fight Darren Till in 3 weeks?’,” Du Plessis revealed.

Du Plessis said that the UFC reached out to his coaches who were at Dana White’s Contender Series at that moment, and they phoned him late night asking him if he’ll fight Till on three week’s notice.

“(They asked) What’ your weight at? And I’m like ‘My weight’s irrelevant at this stage, I’ll take the fight.’ I wasn’t really in a fight camp at all,” he said.

Du Plessis said he had accepted the bout, but the UFC never got back to him. Instead he reached out to Till on social media and that’s how the fight came about at UFC 282.

“I had a feeling since day one this fight will happen, and this will be the biggest name that I beat thus far in my career.”
