Cris Cyborg Says Zingano Next for Title: “When She’s Ready, I Will Be Waiting”

Los Angeles, CA — Bellator women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg will make her pro boxing debut later this month under the Fight Music banner in Brazil.

Cyborg (26-2, 1NC) has long pursued a match in the ring, and that will finally arrive on September 25, 2022 when she faces countrywoman Simone Silva.

Speaking to Cageside Press in an exclusive interview recently, Cyborg spoke highly of her opponent.

“Simone, she’s a pioneer in Brazilian boxing. She’s had 40 professional fights. She’s fought four times for a world title, and she’s still fighting.”

“Of course I would like to fight some girl that doesn’t have too much experience in boxing, but because I have MMA experience, this is not going to be easy for me,” Cyborg added. “The event offered Simone, I said okay, it’s going to be great. It’s going to be two Brazilians fighting. It’s going to be amazing.”

Cyborg hails from Curitiba, Brazil, which has another big MMA star pursuing a boxing career at the moment: Anderson Silva. Silva was recently announced as Jake Paul’s latest opponent. That’s a match-up Cyborg is thrilled with.

“I’m very happy they’re going to fight on Showtime. Showtime is really giving the opportunity for boxing, and women’s boxing too,” she stated. “It’s going to be a great fight. I’m a big fan of Anderson Silva. He’s not just great in MMA, he’s going great in boxing too. It’s going to be a great fight, I’m going to be there.”

As for her MMA career, Cyborg believes there’s one name next for her Bellator MMA women’s featherweight title. “In the line is supposed to be Cat Zingano, when you think about fights for the title. When she’s ready, I will be waiting.”
