It was an anticlimactic ending at UFC 276 when Pedro Munhoz was unable to continue in the second round due to an eye poke from Sean O’Malley.

The next stop for the “Suga Show” arrived Saturday at UFC 276.

Bantamweight “Sugar” Sean O’Malley kicked off the PPV card, getting his toughest test to date against Pedro Munhoz. The Brazilian had faced five UFC champions past and future in his last six fights, but had dropped his last two coming into the fight with O’Malley at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

O’Malley for his part had won three straight since his lone loss to Chito Vera in August of 2020.

Both fighters stayed at kicking range to start the fight with Munhoz throwing a heavy amount of leg kicks to start. O’Malley landed a jab to get his night going. O’Malley tried a spinning back kick that didn’t connect then had to check a few more leg kicks from Munhoz. Munhoz continued to throw kicks after a brief pause in action due to a kick from O’Malley that went below the belt. In between the leg kicks of Munhoz, O’Malley landed a spinning back kick to the body at the end of the round.

Munhoz came out with a head kick and got back to the gameplan of leg kicks. O’Malley landed a long right hand and missed with a wheel kick just barely. O’Malley was able to sneak a jab in after landing a right. Munhoz continued to just land leg kicks. During an exchange, O’Malley stuck out an open hand and accidentally poked the eye of Munhoz. Munhoz told the doctor he could only see black and the fight was called off due to the unintentional foul. An unfortunate end to a fight that was still building.
