The second half of the Professional Fighters League’s 2022 season continued on Friday, with PFL 5 emanating from the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

The “Hotlanta” card featured heavyweights and featherweights, plus a single lightweight fight — albeit one that would turn heads. That was the co-main event, which saw 155 pound leader Anthony Pettis, with a playoff spot already clinched, throw down with fellow UFC veteran Stevie Ray.

It was heavyweights in the main event, meanwhile. Last year’s champion, Bruno Cappelozza, continued his march towards a second title, paired up with Matheus Scheffel.

This year’s PFL 5 card might be more notable for what it had lost (and gained), however, then what it started out with. A full five fighters had been replaced just prior to the night of the event, with a couple of ex-UFC heavyweights stepping in on short notice. Those were Juan Adams, a Contender Series winner, and Maurice Greene, who joined the promotion via TUF 28.

Also in on short notice on Friday were Ago Huskic, taking on fan favorite Brendan Loughnane, Shelton Graves, a heavy underdog against heavyweight Ante Delija, and Reinaldo Ekson, up against a tough wrestler in Bubba Jenkins.

The short-notice fighters would need big, quick finishes to have any hope of making the post season.

PFL 5 gets underway at 6PM ET on Friday, June 24, 2022, with the main card kicking off at 8PM on EPSN (TSN in Canada). Full results from the event can be found below.
