UFC Vegas 48’s Joaquin Buckley Doesn’t Care About Survival: “You Got to Catch Me First Before I Catch You”

The game plan is simple for Joaquin Buckley, don’t get caught and beat his opponent’s ass.

Buckley vs. Abdul Razak Alhassan is finally here. The fight was originally scheduled for the first event of the year; however, Alhassan had to withdraw from the bout with an injury. Thankfully, only a month later and the fight is among us, going down as part of UFC Vegas 48 this Saturday.

Both middleweights are among the most exciting fighters in the entire organization, as well as the most violent. Alhassan comes into the fight with a 100% finish rate, while Buckley has either knocked out his opponent or been knocked out himself in all of his UFC contests.

Alhassan’s finishing ability does not affect Buckley whatsoever, and he doesn’t appear to care about survival.

“Man, look here if he get me, he get me. I don’t care about surviving the first round or second round. I’m always going to come out there and give it my all. If he catches me, good on you, but you got to catch me first before I catch you,” Buckley said during his UFC Vegas 48 media day interview.

The game plan for Buckley is simple, beat his opponent’s ass.

“My game plan is to beat his ass. Period. [To quote] Tyron Woodley, I’m going to beat your ass. You know what I’m saying; that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to go out there and beat his ass; that’s my game plan.”

This is one of those fights where you probably shouldn’t blink, because the first person who lands may very well win.

Buckley did say that when Alhassan pulled out in January, the UFC offered him a big name, which he accepted— but it turned out that big name wasn’t ready. The 27-year old fighter said it is now personal, and that they will probably see each other in the future.
