UFC 271: Calvin Kattar Staying Ready For The Next Opportunity

Houston, TX – For a lot of fighters going to a UFC event means fighting on the card, but it’s always nice to just attend an event as a fan.

UFC featherweight Calvin Kattar was in Houston for UFC 271 and to visit some family that live nearby. He spoke to the media for a short scrum.

“Happy to be out here at 271, not cutting weight, enjoying the fights. I always try to come up to these Texas events. My sister moved out here, married a cowboy, so I never miss an opportunity to jump out and catch the fights in Texas specially when the UFC can set me up with some arraignments out here making the trip worthwhile. Always happy to be out here as a spectator enjoying the fights with my sister,” Kattar said at the post-fight media scrum.

Kattar (23-5) is coming off a decision win over Giga Chikadze in the main event of UFC on ESPN 32. Chikadze said after that fight that he would usually be the winner but just didn’t win vs. Kattar.

“I don’t know if it’s the right mindset. For me I wasn’t really focused on the last guy as much as the next guy. Even further than that I’m usually focused more on myself than anything. You know he talked a lot before the fight so I’m sure he’s just kind of figuring himself out at this moment. Like I told him after the fight really all you can do now is just take it out on the next guy.”

Which brings the obvious question for Kattar of what is next for the #5 ranked UFC featherweight.

“There’s a lot of talk about that. I don’t know who it’s going to be. I think I’m going to fight them all eventually I don’t really care in what order to be honest. Just trying to stay ready keep doing what got me here which is putting in the work, head down putting in the work. This is a nice little vacation out here enjoying the time with my sister and my family out here watching the fights, but excited to get home back to work and just be ready for whatever is next. It pays to stay ready in this business.”
