3. Francis Ngannou vs Ciryl Gane

It has been many years since the heavyweight title picture has had a potential rivalry such as this one brewing.  Years ago, Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane trained together in France where the two were cordial.  While they were not working directly together long, they did train enough that coach Fernand Lopez recorded a light sparring session between the two that has since made the rounds on social media.

This January, they will collide as the unquestioned destructive force of the division and the undefeated phenom in pursuit of greatness.  Ngannou enters the bout as the undisputed champion who is on a five fight win-streak that includes wins over three former champions, including a finish of longtime title holder Stipe Miocic.  Gane has shown his skills far exceed his lack of experience as he’s shocked the likes of former champions and top contenders alike.  In May, he gave a three-round masterclass against Derrick Lewis to claim the interim title and inspire belief that he may possess the recipe to end the historic run of his intimidating former teammate.

While the winner will have plenty of reason to celebrate reigning supreme, January’s match-up is also expected to potentially set up the year’s biggest mega fight.  But more on that shortly…
