Blind Reacting to Five MMA Prospects Vol. 1

Lightweight, Jack Becker (10-2)

Pros

  • High-level jiu-jitsu
  • Solid wrestling
  • Submission threat
  • Relentless wrestling/grappling pressure
  • Heavy leg kicks
  • Physically strong
  • Scrambles very well

Cons

  • Can be overzealous on the feet

After losing two in a row Becker took three years off and has won his next three fights. Becker is a jiu-jitsu specialist that was even an ADCC trials medallist. His grappling is legit so his striking is going to be what’s tested.

Defensively he’s not too hard to hit but has gotten a lot better. Becker holds his hands a lot higher. Being overzealous on the feet coming forward he does leave himself open. He’s got a good understanding of attacking leg kicks and when the opening is there his hands will fly.

Becker is all pressure using striking to close the distance to work takedowns. To complement his ground game Becker is a solid wrestler. He does a good job ducking under punches and in the clinch working his way to the hips and dumping his opponents down. When you see Becker on his back he quickly goes into offensive mode or quickly gets back to his feet. When it’s Becker on top he’s lockdown with impressive control. With control when the opening is there Becker will transition to better positions. He’s position over submission and he still has five submission wins. All five of Becker’s submissions come from different submissions; a heel hook, kneebar, RNC, an arm-triangle, and a guillotine.

Becker is the real deal and is now a top lightweight prospect I’ll be watching for.
