At long last, at Bellator 270, there was life in Bellator’s lightweight division.
Perhaps that statement is just a tad unfair, with names like Brent Primus, Myles Jury, and Benson Henderson — not to mention Michael Chandler, prior to departing for the UFC — keeping the weight class afloat over the past few years. But the man at the top, Patricio Pitbull, did not defend the title after claiming it from Chandler in May of 2019.
Well over 24 months later, after being finished by AJ McKee in the finale of Bellator’s featherweight grand prix, losing one of his titles in the process, Pitbull would vacate the other — to allow for his brother Patricky to fight for it. That title fight comes against Peter Queally, who defeated Patricky Pitbull earlier this year care of a doctor’s stoppage TKO, after opening up a nasty cut on the Brazilian.
They’ll run it back in Dublin, Ireland on Friday, putting Patricky Pitbull in enemy territory, a position he appeared to relish ahead of the fight.
In the co-main event, James Gallagher returned home to take on former title challenger Patchy Mix, in a key fight for the promotion’s bantamweight division, which will see the title in play next month when Sergio Pettis defends against Kyoji Horiguchi.
