Aung La N Sang, ONE Championship 80
In 2018, there were few fighters on the planet as hot as Aung La N Sang.
Already the ONE middleweight champion, he would become the light heavyweight champion that February. He would defend his middleweight title in June, before being set for another title defense in his home country of Myanmar against Mohammad Karaki at ONE Championship 80.
The main event came that evening, and the lights dimmed. The lights then flickered red, as the song “Amae Like Akah” by Lay Phyu blasted over the speakers of the Thuwunna Stadium. However soon the music would be drowned out by the 30,000 people in the crowd singing the song for N Sang instead.
It’s easy to forget sometimes that the UFC isn’t the only promotion on the planet with fighters that are cared about, and on that night Aung La N Sang was a star. He would follow up the entrance with a first-round knockout to defend his crown once again.
