Former Cage Warriors double-champ Mason Jones was looking to get back in the win column on Saturday at UFC Vegas 28. He was also looking for his first victory inside the octagon, after suffering his first career loss, to Mike Davis, in his UFC debut.

In dire need of a win after dropping two straight, Alan Patrick was the man standing across from Jones on Saturday.

Jones took the center of the octagon to start the fight and walked Patrick down at UFC Vegas 28. Patrick shot for a takedown, but it was stuffed and then followed up with a wild spinning back fist. Jones put Patrick against the fence and was working his body. Patrick threw another spinning back fist but missed and slipped. A third spinning back fist was followed by two wild hooks by Patrick, resulting in Jones smiling at him. Jones landed a 1-2, which stunned Patrick. Jones barely missed with a high kick, and Patrick threw a fourth spinning back fist. Patrick fell, and Jones pounced on him. Jones landed a nasty elbow that cut Patrick open. Jones landed heavy ground and pound with less than a minute left, which made the referee tell Patrick to move. Patrick got to his feet, and both men were throwing combos to end the round. What a wild first round.

Patrick opened the second round with a leaping left hand and then went for a takedown but nothing came of it. Jones clinched up with Patrick and then put him on his back. Jones was back to dropping elbows and ground and pound. Just over three minutes in the round remaining, and Patrick got back to his feet. Patrick threw another spinning back fist but then was poked in the eye by Jones, halting the fight.

Patrick’s coach said he couldn’t see, and the fight was called off as Patrick was unable to continue.
