A very fun welterweight fight is in the works for April.
According to Fighter Path, Mike Perry and Daniel Rodriguez will collide on April 10 in what guarantees to be an exciting fight with some trash talk.
Perry (14-7) was in many headlines in 2020, but not for the right reasons, as his life outside of fighting was full of controversy. That included a public altercation at a Texas eatery, and allegations of abuse from his ex-wife.
Let’s hope that Perry has a bit of a quieter 2021. Perry fought twice last year, winning one and losing another. In June, he won a unanimous decision over Mikey Gall. The fight itself was almost overshadowed by the fact that Perry’s girlfriend was his corner. “Platinum” was scheduled to face UFC legend Robbie Lawler at UFC 255, but Lawler pulled out of the fight. Perry instead faced UFC veteran Tim Means, losing via unanimous decision. Once again, the fight was nearly overshadowed by external factors, including Perry missing weight — and appearing rather nonchalant about it.
Rodriguez (13-2) had quite the rookie year in the UFC last year. He made his UFC debut in February and pulled off the upset win by submitting Tim Means. Rodriguez returned three months later and defeated recently victorious Gabe Green via unanimous decision. Three months after that, he defeated Dwight Grant via knockout after almost being finished himself. Finally, in November, on the same card as Perry, he lost a questionable unanimous decision to Nicolas Dalby. A fight that many scored for Rodriguez.
Darren Till and Marvin Vettori look set to headline the UFC’s April 10, 2021 card. Till and Perry themselves have a very storied past, which should lead to a lot of fun in the build-up to the event. The Fight Night card, potentially airing on ABC, currently boasts the following bouts:
