UFC 255’s Brandon Moreno: “I Live in Pressure”

The UFC 255 card represents a big night for the flyweight division. Both the men’s and women’s 125lb titles are on the line. There are a number of key flyweight fights on the card beyond that. Including Brandon Moreno vs. Brandon Royval, which could produce the next challenger.

That might create a little more pressure for the parties involved. Not that it concerns Moreno (17-5-1). “Brother, I live in pressure,” he told Cageside Press during the UFC 255 media day. “I always have pressure in every single one of my days, I have so much pressure. But I understand the responsibility of this moment.”

“I have an amazing opportunity to make a statement this Saturday against Brandon Royval,” he added. “I know the same night, the flyweight title is on the line. So I’m excited. I’m so excited for the opportunity.”

Moreno was originally supposed to fight Alex Perez. Perez, however, got the call to step into the main event when Cody Garbrandt dropped off the card.

Switching between the two, “at first it was hard, but I had the necessary time to change the game plan between Alex Perez and Brandon Royval.” Royval, noted Moreno, is a southpaw who throws with volume. Perez throws fewer, but heavier strikes from the orthodox stance.

“There’s stuff in my game plan I needed to change, but right now, everything is perfect,” he stated.

UFC 255 takes place Saturday, November 21 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card airs live on PPV following online and televised prelims.
