Jon Jones

This one seems almost too perfect not to happen if Lesnar were to return to MMA. Like Cormier, Jones and Lesnar have history. Jones called out Lesnar following his win over Daniel Cormier at UFC 214, however that bout wouldn’t come together due to Jones testing positive for steroids following the fight, and being suspended for a few years by USADA. Jones would return and fight at light heavyweight until 2020, until announcing just recently a move up to heavyweight.

With Stipe Miocic seemingly set to face off with top contender Francis Ngannou, it leaves Jones on the sidelines. It’s unlikely that Jones would want to wait for the winner of that bout, especially considering that Miocic needs time to heal off his war of a fight last month with Daniel Cormier. Jones is too big of a name to face off with just anyone at heavyweight, it has to mean something, and what bigger fight would there be for Jones first fight at 265 than Brock Lesnar?

The two have history, and Jones called Lesnar out once again when the news came out that he was a free agent. If Brock Lesnar returns to MMA, it would be extremely likely that his opponent would be Jon Jones. Unlike previous opponents, there’s no overarching answer as to why the bout wouldn’t happen, other than Lesnar not wanting to do it. Jones wants it, the UFC would want it, the only question would be if Lesnar wanted to do it.

So if Lesnar comes back, there’s no more likely fight for the former champion than Jon Jones. Even UFC President Dana White admits it’s a possibility.
