Daniel Cormier may have just retired at UFC 252, however it’s unlikely that he would say no to a Brock Lesnar payday. Cormier and Lesnar have massive history as well, as the two were originally set to square off following Cormier’s championship win over Stipe Miocic at UFC 226. The two even had an in-cage shoving match where they both got in each other’s faces and talked trash. It was very similar to Lesnar’s other world in the WWE honestly.

However that fight would fall apart and Cormier would wind up closing out his career following two straight losses to Stipe Miocic, losing his heavyweight crown in the process. This fight may have lost it’s luster due to Cormier losing his last two bouts and Lesnar having gotten a few years older, but it’s still likely it would draw a massive audience and the UFC would probably like to give it to Cormier as a retirement gift and for being such a good company man.

The reason why this bout may not happen is for a couple of reasons, firstly that Cormier is retired. Daniel Cormier talked for years at length about wanting to be done at 40, and he stuck around for a few extra years in part due to Lesnar. With all of what Cormier does outside of the cage, who knows if he’d even want to go through one more training camp for a fight with Lesnar? The other reason being that who knows if the UFC would want to give the Lesnar fight to someone retiring? Beating Brock Lesnar is a huge deal, and could potentially make a fighter into a huge star, so it wouldn’t benefit the UFC in the long run to give Cormier the Lesnar fight.
