A bantamweight bout between two promising prospects has been added to the UFC’s September 26 card.

Fight news that had been teased by Randy Costa all week on his social media and previously in an interview with Cageside Press is now official. First reported by MMA Junkie and set for September 26, Costa will be taking on Journey Newson.

In our interview with Costa, he explained that he would be training at American Top Team for this camp, while his home at Lauzon MMA remains closed during the pandemic under Massachusetts guidelines.

Costa is coming off of an impressive win in his own backyard of TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Appearing now in his 3rd UFC bout since signing with the promotion, the 26 year old currently sits at 1-1 (5-1 overall). Costa landed a superb right hand to drop his opponent, Boston Salmon, and quickly finished the fight last October. He was set to face Martin Day at UFC Colombus before the Coronavirus pandemic cancelled that card. Costa has finished all of his victories in his young career.

Costa’s opponent Journey Newson (9-2) is also a two-fight veteran with the promotion. Newson had a massive KO victory over Domingo Pilarte in under a minute. That victory has since been overturned to a no contest due to a failed drug test. Newson was suspended for a month following that incident. Newson has 3 wins via KO and 3 via submission.

The stacked bantamweight division has plenty of talent in it’s depths, and on September 26th another shall emerge. Both fighters are young in age and in the sport, but with tons of hype surrounding each of them early in their UFC careers. Both fighters also entered the UFC on impressive winning streaks, and lost in their debuts with the promotion, only to come back stronger the following appearance. While Newson’s KO victory at UFC 247 may not be in the record books the veracity of the KO remains. Costa is coming off the high of a first round TKO while in his hometown, and on the same card his coach Joe Lauzon also recorded a finish victory. Each of these men are looking to continue to prove the hype surrounding them on September 26th.
