A couple of Americans are headed to Fight Island on short notice. While Jimmie Rivera was campaigning for a fight against Frankie Edgar, who lost opponent Pedro Munhoz due to a positive COVID-19 test, instead, he’s been paired up with Cody Stamann.

MMA Fighting was first to report the news. Stamann later confirmed the booking.

The timing lines up well for Rivera, who told us back in May that he was aiming to return mid-Summer. However, the bantamweight pair will throw down at featherweight rather than 135lbs, given the short-notice nature of the contest.

Rivera (22-4) last fought in June 2019, losing a unanimous decision against Petr Yan. It was the second straight decision defeat for “El Terror,” who had previously dropped a bout to Aljamain Sterling. Rivera will now look to get back to his winning ways against Stamann, who is coming off an emotional victory last month.

Stamann (19-2-1) picked up that win over Brian “Boom” Kelleher at UFC 250. However, barely over a week prior, he’d suffered the loss of his 18-year old brother.

The UFC’s July 15 Fight Island card now consists of:

Calvin Kattar vs. Dan Ige
Frankie Edgar vs. Pedro Munhoz
Jimmie Rivera vs. Cody Stamann
Abdul Razak Alhassan vs. Mounir Lazzez
Chris Fishgold vs. Jared Gordon
Modestas Bukauskas vs. Andreas Michailidis
Molly McCann vs. Taila Santos
Lerone Murphy vs. Ricardo Ramos
John Phillips vs. Dusko Todorovic
Ryan Benoit vs. Tim Elliott
Diana Belbita vs. Liana Jojua
