Brazilian lightweight Francisco Trinaldo is a youthful 41-years old and will turn 42 this August. Just before that milestone, however, Trinaldo will head to Fight Island to square off against Jai Herbert. When he does so, Trinaldo will be looking to make it 3-0 inside the octagon.

Some fighters seem to get better with age. Combate was first to report news of the booking.

A rare handful of fighters are currently competing in their 40s in the UFC’s lower weight classes. While it’s commonplace for heavyweights, smaller fighters tend to have shorter career spans. But Marion Reneau, Anderson Silva, and freak of nature Yoel Romero continue to fight on. Tinaldo is another in that list, but he’s had more success of late.

In his last two outings, Trinaldo (25-7) has picked up wins over Bobby Green and John Makdessi. Both fights went the distance, ending in unanimous decision victories for the Brazilian.

Jai Herbert (10-1) is the current Cage Warriors lightweight champion. He’ll make his promotional debut on Fight Island, having won his last six fights. Five of those six wins have come via stoppage.

The July 25 Fight Island card, a Fight Night event, is expected to be headlined by former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and ex-welterweight title challenger Darren Till.
