UFC on ESPN 12: Poirier vs. Hooker Preview — Can It Live Up to the Hype?

Dustin Poirier vs. Dan Hooker promises to entertain, not just because both men are willing to take damage, but because they are two of the most technically sound strikers at lightweight.

The UFC’s final show in Las Vegas before it takes flight to Fight Island sees lightweights Dustin Poirier and Dan Hooker throw down in a fan-friendly scrap. One that could produce the next in line for the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Justin Gaethje — at least depending on what happens with Tony Ferguson and Conor McGregor.

The thing that makes Dustin Porier vs. Dan Hooker so awesome is that there is no possible way it isn’t going to be really, really entertaining. That’s just the nature of pitting a couple of the most elite lightweight mixed martial artists on the planet against each other in a main event showdown. It’s not just that they are both primarily strikers who like to push their limits and willfully put themselves in harms way in an effort to win. It’s the fact that they are two of the most technically sound strikers in the most talent rich division in the sport. That is what really ensures that we are in for a show on Saturday night.
