Ray “The Tazmexican Devil” Borg (13-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC)

Flyweight (125lbs): 6-3 (UFC), UFC Flyweight Title Challenger, Missed weight three times

Bantamweight (135lbs): 1-2 (UFC), Missed weight one time

Ray Borg has had a really incredible UFC career thus far, but sadly his raw talent has been overshadowed by weight cutting issues and injuries. Over the course of Borg’s 12 fight UFC career, he has had 12 fight cancellations. To be fair, Borg was not the culprit of all 12 of these fight cancellations.

Ray Borg is a Weight Cutting Chronicles Alum and to date has missed weight four times under the UFC’s promotional banner. This includes in Borg’s second-to-last fight back in February of this year against Rogerio Bontorin, when he missed weight for what was likely his last flyweight fight in the UFC. Borg has an absurd amount of talent which is why he fought Demetrious Johnson for the UFC flyweight belt nearly three years ago and right now he is only 26 years old.  While speaking at UFC Jacksonville Media Day earlier this year, Borg had an excellent quote to perfectly sum up how his weight-cutting woes have come to completely overshadow his skills in the octagon, saying to MMA Media including Cageside Press:

“It sucks that I’ve missed weight but what people tend to forget is I’m pretty good at fighting.”

Borg will again be at 135lbs, for his fight on June 13th, after his split decision loss to Ricky Simon at the same weight class exactly a month prior.

Note: Borg was forced to withdraw from Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 10 card for personal reasons unrelated to his weight.
