Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (26-8 MMA, 9-4 UFC)

Middleweight (185lbs): 9-3 (UFC)

Light Heavyweight (205lbs): 0-1 (UFC)

Jacare has been a staple of the UFC’s middleweight division for a few years now. Many would call him the man to beat if you were making a case for a title shot at 185lbs. Souza tried his hand at light heavyweight in an attempt to capitalize on the recent wave of success for UFC middleweights making the 20lbs jump to 205lbs. It didn’t go well. Jacare Souza’s last fight was actually his debut at light heavyweight and it was spoiled by Jan Blackowitz in November of 2019. The fight was a hard-fought split decision that was seen as slow in the eyes of many fans and left a sour taste in the Brazillian grappling ace’s mouth.

For UFC 249 Jacare has elected to end his experiment at light heavyweight and return to the division where he is known so well.
