Another major card has been pushed back due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Bellator 244 in Chicago, which had been scheduled for June 6, is the latest MMA card to see the plug pulled due to SARS-CoV-2. In a press release distributed to media outlets Tuesday and later posted to social media, Bellator officials announced that the show was off. A new date has yet to be announced.

“Due to the ongoing safety concerns surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak, as well as current federal, state and local government mandates, Bellator MMA officials today have announced that Bellator 244, originally scheduled to take place on June 6 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Ill., has been postponed,” the promotion wrote. “The organization will continue to monitor the situation closely and fully intends to reschedule the event as soon as possible.”

“As always, the health and safety of our athletes, fans, partners and staff remains our top priority. We appreciate the understanding and patience of everyone involved during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement finished.

Bellator 244 was originally scheduled to feature the second meeting between former Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler and former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson. A featherweight grand prix semi-final bout between A.J. McKee and Darrion Caldwell was also expected for the card.
