UFC featherweight contender Zabit Magomedsharipov has faced a bit of criticism for his endurance as of late, and the contender doesn’t seem to disagree with those criticisms.

Magomedsharipov is undefeated in his UFC run and has emerged as one of the promotion’s most promising prospects. However, after his recent five-round bout with Calvin Kattar, Magomedsharipov’s cardio has been called into question. Speaking to media in Russia recently, including RT Sport, Magomedsharipov actually opened up on his endurance issues.

The 28-year-old admitted he probably doesn’t have the best endurance, but says he has no problems going five rounds in training. He added, if he were boxing for five rounds, he’d be just fine. However, given how diverse the MMA game is, it’s a lot more physically taxing. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“I wouldn’t say that I’ve got the best endurance. I have no problems going five rounds during training. Sometimes my weight cut doesn’t go as planned. I can get sick,” Magomedsharipov said. “I use up a lot of energy, when you kick it takes a lot of you. If it’s just boxing, I can easily go five rounds. When you do the same thing all the time, it doesn’t take much energy.”

Magomedsharipov is hoping to make his return to the Octagon on the April 18 UFC 249 pay-per-view (PPV) event. No fight has been confirmed for the Russian just yet, but there are strong rumors going around suggesting he’s fighting Brian Ortega.
