UFC 246 goes down Saturday night, with the key fights official, save for Alexa Grasso vs. Claudia Gadelha, scuttled due to Grasso missing weight.
Even Chuck Liddell was on hand at the UFC 246 ceremonial weigh-in. The return of Conor McGregor is big enough to bring out MMA’s A-listers, and it’s likely big enough to draw in a whole lot of eyeballs come Saturday night.
While the build-up to McGregor vs. Donald Cerrone has been something of a quiet affair — no buses were harmed in the making of this fight — fireworks are to be expected in the main event. McGregor and Cerrone seemingly never have a bad fight, win or lose. Which makes this a must-see affair, even with an undercard that lacks relevance.
There’s another take on the card, however, and that’s that the UFC may be using this to put eyeballs on future stars. Maycee Barber, Sabina Mazo, Ode Osbourne, Aleksa Camur, and Sodiq Yusuff all have the potential to do big things on the line. McGregor’s name may carry the event, but it’s those lesser-known names that could benefit.
We’ll see how they do come Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
