Anthony Hernandez struggled in the early going, but eventually was able to catch Jun Yong Park in an anaconda choke at UFC Shenzhen.
Anthony Hernandez comes into UFC Shenzhen looking for his first UFC victory, losing by anaconda choke in his promotional debut. Jun Yong Park heads into his UFC debut on a seven-fight win streak that includes a win over PFL’s Ray Cooper III.
Jabs were established by both fighters right away. Anthony Hernandez was aggressive early on, but Jun Yong Park was looking good with his counter-shots. Hernandez landed a combination after eating some punches from Park, then clinched up. Both men were throwing down, and Park caught him with a pair of big right hands. Hernandez stumbled, then shot for a single-leg in desperation. Park countered with a guillotine, forcing Hernandez to separate. Hernandez came in a second time and landed the takedown this time. He fought through a kimura attempt before returning to the feet and rushing in with a combination to end the round, getting caught with counters in the process.
Cageside Press scored the round 10-9 Park
Hernandez landed a body kick but was countered by a one-two. Park continued to land punches in bunches. A combination landed, forcing Hernandez to back up, then Park dropped him with a right hand. Hernandez popped up and shot for a takedown, driving Park across the Octagon and getting him down. Park got up quickly and attempted a standing guillotine. Hernandez survived, then landed a nice combination upon separation. He followed with a knee to the body, then a takedown, taking the back of Park. Park rolled, but Hernandez had mount briefly, then back to back control. While Park tried to roll out, Hernandez went for a guillotine, then transitioned to an anaconda choke. Park could not escape and was forced to tap out.
