UFC 240: Gillian Robertson Would Fight Dana White If It Got Her Ranked

Gillian Robertson is poised for big things after UFC 240, as the Canadian flyweight now has the most wins, and finishes, in the division.

Edmonton, AB — After the first TKO victory of her career at UFC 240, Gillian Robertson is sitting pretty in the women’s flyweight division. Robertson, a Canadian who lives and trains out of Florida, now has the most wins, and finishes, at 125lbs in the UFC.

Rather impressive at the tender age of twenty-four. So next up for Robertson is staying active and getting ranked, she told media outlets including Cageside Press on Saturday night. “If they put Dana White in front of me, then if that gets me ranked, I’m taking that fight!” she joked.

Robertson was beaming following her big win over Brazil’s Sarah Frota, which came following a barrage of elbows in the second round. Previously, all three of her wins had come via submission. “It’s absolutely huge, especially my first TKO in Canada, my home country, so it feels absolutely amazing,” she described the feeling after winning Saturday. “The crowd and the vibes out there were just incredible.”

As they should be. With her blazing red hair, Robertson easily stands out as one of Canada’s own, regardless as to where she’s living. And she certainly had a fire in her at UFC 240. But then, she always does, as she’s always looking to finish. “I’m honestly always hunting for the submission,” said Robertson. But this time, she made a point to show a more well-rounded game. “I wanted to be able to display my ground and pound a little bit better during this fight, which I’m happy I got the chance to [do].”

On the way to the win, Robertson was actually “using the strikes to open up the submission, then I heard the ref call, ‘you need to be more active Frota,’ so then I started throwing as much as I could.” It was over soon after.

“This is the most comfortable I’ve ever been in the cage, this is the most I’ve ever really clearly thought in the cage,” she added later, “and I feel like I performed well.”

Prior to the fight, Robertson spoke to Cageside Press about being her own worst critic to the point that she doesn’t like showing people her fights, with one exception. Asked if the Frota win might make the cut, Robertson said that “I need to watch it, I need to see, it goes by in such a flash when you’re in there. Before my only performance I’ve ever been proud of was my one against Molly McCann, I feel like this one, I definitely performed tonight, it’s definitely up there.” So maybe, then.
