Undefeated flyweight Askar Askarov has officially signed with the UFC.
The highly anticipated UFC signing of undefeated flyweight Askar Askarov is finally official. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto confirmed the news.
Askar Askarov is a 26-year old Russian prospect who will be competing in the flyweight division. Askarov is a former ACB flyweight champion, a title he defended two times, most recently in May 2018. “Bullet” trains out of Berkut FC in Khasauvyart, Russia. Askarov has finished all of his victories, seven via submission and three via knockout.
Askarov has spent the majority of his career in ACB (now re-branded to ACA) where he made his debut in 2015, and competed seven times in the promotion. Most recently, Askarov submitted Rasul Albaskhanov via guillotine choke in the second round at ACB 86. The 26-year old has a variety of submission methods, including a twister submission over Bellator veteran Anthony Leone in 2017. The Russian has faced solid competition, with his foes record combining to 95-24-1 when he fought them.
Askarov’s debut has yet to be announced at this time, but he will be competing in the flyweight division. After a recent re-signing of Brandon Moreno and the bookings of multiple flyweight fights, perhaps there is still hope left in the UFC flyweight division.
