Alex Gorgees is losing both his spot in the UFC and sixteen months of his pro career after testing positive for multiple banned substances.

Now former UFC lightweight Alex Gorgees has been handed down a sixteen month suspension by USADA. And in addition, as indicated, he’s been released by the UFC. The news came to light Friday, as USADA announced via press release that Gorgees (7-1) had accepted the sanction stemming from multiple drug test failures for metabolites of Drostanolone and DHCMT.

Both substances are classified as anabolic agents, and banned at all times under the UFC’s Anti-Doping Policy. Gorgees, however, had voluntarily provided evidence of use, earning himself a lighter sentence in the end. “Gorgees immediately came forward with detailed evidence of his use of prohibited substances before entering the UFC Anti-Doping Program and continued to cooperate throughout USADA’s investigation related to his use, even after his release from the UFC,” Friday’s press release read. “As a result, Gorgees received a reduction from the maximum two-year period of ineligibility for a doping offense involving a non-Specified Substance.”

Gorgees’ sixteen month ban began December 2, 2018. The Australian appeared just once in the UFC, losing a decision to Damir Ismagulov at UFC Adelaide. An expected bout with Jalin Turner in February was called off, likely due to the failed drug tests.
