After a foul-filled opening round, Charles Oliveira came out on fire in the second against David Teymur at UFC Fortaleza.

The UFC record holder for submission finishes, Charles Oliveira, was back in action over the weekend at UFC Fortaleza. The show, alternately UFC on ESPN+ 2, went down in the turbulent Fortaleza, Brazil, where tensions between the government and local gangs had been boiling over of late. Which no doubt made the event a welcome distraction, while giving Oliveira a shot to increase his submission record against David Teymur.

Teymur, of course, had not lost a fight as a pro since his debut, and had won all five of his UFC bouts. He came out throwing a high kick early against Oliveira, but as Teymur pushed off Oliveira after the kick, he poked the Brazilian in the eye. That led to a pause as Oliveira recovered, and a point taken from Teymur. However immediately as they got underway, Oliveira complained of a second eye poke, and stopped fighting, despite the ref not having called time. Moments later the pair got going, and Teymur dropped his opponent with a left! Oliveira tried laying in guard, but Teymur wasn’t biting.

After another complaint of a foul, the ref warned to pair not to stop defending, and Olvieira briefly got his opponent to the canvas. On the feet, Oliveira proved he could hang with Teymur, as the pair traded in the bottom half of the round. Both men landed some hard shots, setting things up for what promised to be an exciting second.

In the second, Oliveira came out firing on all cylinders. He went to town on Teymur, teeing off with an up elbow, an uppcut, then a barrage of strikes as Teymur covered up and turned around. Just when it was looking like a TKO, Oliveira grabbed his opponent’s neck and wrapped up an Anaconda choke, quickly earning the submission win!
