China’s Xiong Jing Nan put on a show in her native China on Saturday, and successfully defended her strawweight title at ONE Championship: Beyond the Horizon in Shanghai!
ONE Championship touched down in Shanghai, China on Saturday, as the promotion brought the ONE ring, and a strawweight title fight in the main event. Featuring rising star and reigning champion Xiong Jing Nan facing Brazil’s Samara Santos, the nine-fight card (due to a couple of late cancellations) was peppered with ONE Super Series bouts, and a couple of key fights in the MMA realm.
Chief among them, of course, was the main event, which saw ‘The Panda’ Xiong Jing Nan capture her second straight title defense. Ending the fight via a third round knockout, Jing Nan improved her record to 13-1 — and punched her ticket to a super-fight against ONE’s biggest star, Angela Lee. Lee, who is undefeated and holds the ONE Championship atomweight crown, will move up in weight for the fight, which is expected to take place in November in Singapore.
Also on the Beyond the Horizon card in Shanghai, Amir Khan captured a key victory at lightweight when he submitted former champion Honorio Banario. And in featherweight action, an illegal suplex by Christian Lee cost him, as he suffered a DQ loss against Edward Kelly.
