Former UFC lightweight Gleison Tibau is the first name added to the Ortiz vs. Liddell 3 undercard, and is expected to compete at welterweight at the event.
Longtime UFC lightweight Gleison Tibau, who recently parted ways with the promotion, will be back in action this November. Per a report by MMA Fighting, Tibau will be joining the Tito Ortiz vs. Chuck Liddell 3 card this November. The fight is being promoted by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotion’s, marking the former boxing champion’s first foray into promoting mixed martial arts.
Tibau, who has said he’d be looking for one-fight deals in his post-UFC career, will be fighting at welterweight at the event. He told MMA Fighting that Golden Boy is currently seeking out an opponent for him at the Thanksgiving show.
Cageside Press was first to report that Ortiz vs. Liddell 3 would take place on Thanksgiving Weekend, and that both Ortiz and Liddell had passed their medicals. Speaking to Oscar De La Hoya previously, he suggested that the undercard would feature some big MMA bouts. “Just the way Golden Boy does, we’re going to do it big,” he told us back in August.
Tibau (33-14), meanwhile, will be looking to earn his first win since 2014 on the undercard of Ortiz vs. Liddell 3. The Brazilian has lost four straight fights, including bouts against Tony Ferguson and Desmond Green.
