Saturday’s ONE Championship: Pinnacle of Power saw China’s Xiong Jing Nan successfully defend her strawweight title, while interim champion Geje Eustaquio captured the unified flyweight crown against Adriano Moraes.
With a pair of title fights atop the card on Saturday (including Moraes vs. Eustaquio in the main event), the ONE Championship: Pinnacle of Power card was set to impress fans in Macau, China. And the Chinese faithful should certainly have been impressed, as their own Xiong Jing Nan defended her women’s strawweight title for the first time in a five round affair against Laura Balin. ‘The Panda’ used superior mat skills to put a drubbing on Argentina’s Balin, who showed plenty of heart but was simply overwhelmed by the champion.
Eustaquio, meanwhile, pulled off an impressive upset over Adriano Moraes. Calling the feeling “awesome” after the bout, the newly crowned undisputed champion said that “when I started 14 years ago, this was impossible. But now, after 14 years, impossible is not a word, it’s just a reason. Anybody can be a world champion, as long as you have the drive and the attitude. I am proud to be the undisputed ONE Flyweight World Champion this time.”
