With less than two weeks to the event, Alex Oliveira has stepped up to face Carlos Condit at UFC Glendale.

While UFC Glendale (UFC on FOX 29) has lost Matt Brown, it has picked up a suitable replacement for him vs. Carlos Condit. As first reported by Combate, Brazil’s Alex Oliveira will step up to face ‘The Natural Born Killer’ later this month. The replacement keeps Condit on the card, while still providing fans with a tantalizing possibility for a violent classic. In short, it’s making the best of a bad situation.

Brown was previously announced as being forced off the card due to an ACL injury.

Condit (30-11), a former WEC and interim UFC welterweight champion, returned to action for the first time in over a year at UFC 219. While he would lose a decision to Neil Magny that night, he remains a fan favorite thanks to his creative, and frankly vicious striking ability. However, the New Mexico native has lost three straight, dating back to a 2016 title fight against Robbie Lawler at UFC 195.

Alex Oliveira, meanwhile, suffered his first loss since 2016 to Yancy Medeiros at UFC 218 in December in a thrilling affair. Oliveira (18–4–1 (2)) had been on a five fight undefeated streak prior to that (counting a No Contest to Tim Means, a rematch of which Oliveira won).

He’ll have just under two weeks to make weight for the welterweight bout. UFC Glendale, a.k.a. UFC on FOX 29, takes place at the Gila River Arena on April 14 in Glendale, AZ. Justin Gaethje faces Dustin Poirier in the main event.
