Saturday’s UFC Belem card is down a fight, as John Dodson vs. Pedro Munhoz has been scratched from the event.
The planned co-main event of UFC Fight Night 125 is no more. Per an announcement Friday by the UFC, John Dodson vs. Pedro Munhoz has been removed from the card. That’s after Munhoz blew weight by a full four pounds, coming in at 140lbs for the bantamweight bout (with the 1lb allowance for non-title fights, 136 was the highest acceptable weight for the division).
Per the UFC’s official statement on the matter, the women’s flyweight fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Priscila Cachoeira moves to the co-main event slot. The card will proceed with eleven fights scheduled.
Weight cutting has turned out to be a major issue for the UFC’s first trip to Belem. A full three fighters missed weight during weigh-ins Friday morning. However, due to hot water problems at the host hotel, main event fighter Eryk Anders was granted an additional hour to weigh in, and made weight without any further issues for his fight with Lyoto Machida.
The still leaves Michel Prazeres, who came in five pounds over for his lightweight fight. It appears that fight, against Des Green, will go forward however.
The UFC’s statement Friday said simply
