Sarah Moras returned in a big way at UFC 215, locking in a first round armbar against 15th-ranked Ashlee Evans-Smith.

Sarah Moras makes her long overdue return to the Octagon tonight at UFC 215. The Canadian’s last bout occurred over two years ago, in which she was defeated in a hard-fought contest against former strawweight title challenger Jessica Andrade. “Cheesecake” comes into this contest with a UFC record of 1-1.

Ashlee Evans-Smith, like her opponent, is relatively new to MMA, sporting a 5-2 record. After getting choked out by Raquel Pennington in her Octagon debut, Evans-Smith scored two straight UFC victories. Her run came to an end at UFC Kansas City against prelim headliner Ketlen Vieira.

Moras was visibly excited to get back in the cage, charging at Evans-Smith almost immediately with a combination and a clinch effort. After jockeying for position, Moras pulled Evans-Smith down, failing to get top position though as Evans-Smith took side control.

Sarah Moras squirmed her way to closed guard and began attacking for an armbar from guard. Ashlee Evans-Smith defended hard, placing her foot underneath the chin of Moras. Moras adjusted her position and Evans-Smith worked her way to the cage which prevented the Canadian from extending.

Moras was able to turn away from the cage and gained full extension on the armbar, potentially dislocating the elbow of her opponent and getting the tap. Moras was overwhelmed with excitement after winning in the first round in front of her home crowd.

The former Ultimate Fighter competitor made it clear that she used every bit of energy in her legs to finish the submission, but it was certainly worth it. Also, when asked about the possible arm injury to Evans-Smith, Moras said, “I hope so.” Which Joe Rogan quickly pointed out might have been a bit mean-spirited.

Sarah Moras will find herself ranked following UFC 215 after her big win over the 15th-ranked Ashlee Evans-Smith.
