Longtime UFC lightweight Thiago Moises is no longer part of the UFC roster.
UFC Roster Watch was among those reporting that Moises was gone from the promotion on Friday. The Brazilian veteran joined the promotion following a high-profile victory on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2018, and found considerable success early on.
Moises (19-10), a former RFA lightweight champion who fought for the inaugural LFA 155lb title when RFA and LFC merged, picked up wins over King Green (then Bobby Green), Alexander Hernandez, and Michael Johnson from 2020 to 2021, and faced off against future lightweight and welterweight champ Islam Makhachev immediately after that three-fight stretch, though he came up short.
At UFC 283 in Rio, fighting at home in his native Brazil, he earned a face crank submission victory against Melquizael Costa, who coincidentally just headlined his first UFC card earlier this year.
Moises, however, struggled with consistency in the UFC, posting an 8-8 record in 16 fights. Most recently, he was paired up with Gauge Young at UFC Winnipeg in April, losing a split decision in an entertaining fight that saw Moises throw caution to the wind at times.
The loss marked his second straight setback, and was his third defeat in four fights. Still just 31, Moises has yet to comment on his exit from the UFC, but has the opportunity to fight on elsewhere.
