PFL Chicago: Fabian Edwards Wants to Take Guys Out, Prove He’s Best in the World

Fabian Edwards returns to action at PFL Chicago, looking to both move on in the PFL’s middleweight World Tournament, and eventually earn himself another crack at Johnny Eblen.

Yet for Edwards (14-4), it’s not about just beating an old foe. It’s about proving something more, he explained during the PFL Chicago media day on Wednesday.

“It’s about showing I’m the best in the world, and that’s it,” stated Edwards, speaking with media outlets including Cageside Press. “I feel like going out there, beating Josh, beating the winner of the Rosta vs. Jeffery fight, winning the Johnny [Eblen] rematch, that’s what it’s about. It’s all about taking these guys out and showing I am the best in the world.”

Dalton Rosta vs. Aaron Jeffery is the fight on the other side of the PFL World Tournament bracket. Opposite Fabian Edwards this Friday will be Josh Silveira, who has flirted with a title the past couple of years. Previously, that came in the 205lb division, but with the PFL introducing 185lbs this year, Silveira has moved back down.

Edwards isn’t looking to the final just yet, in any case. “Every fight is the biggest fight because if you don’t win that fight, you don’t go on to do good things,” he noted, speaking about being two wins away from the tournament title and prize money. “So it’s a big moment, big opportunity, but I’m just taking it one fight at a time.”

As far as how he views the match-up with a talented BJJ artist, and whether it was grappler versus striker, Edwards countered that “I see this as a grappler versus a well-rounded mixed martial artist, and that’s it.” Pointing out his own well-rounded skill set, Edwards finished by saying “it’s a grappler versus someone who can do everything.”
