After securing a spot in the UFC by way of Dana White’s Lookin’ for a Fight, South Korean featherweight Joo Sang Yoo made his promotional debut opposite Jeka Saragih at UFC 316.
A Road to UFC alum, Indonesia’s Saragih was 1-2 in the company and looking to bounce back from a loss to Westin Wilson. After Saturday, UFC fans may have seen the last of him.
Round one began with Yoo missing on a spinning wheel kick. Saragih countered with a right hand and pressed forward, but walked straight into a perfectly timed short left hook that landed flush on the jaw. The shot face-planted Saragih in a devastating knockout finish.
The fight was over almost before it started, and with the thunderous finish, Yoo left a lasting impression with UFC fans. He continued to build on that in his post-fight speech with UFC color commentator Joe Rogan, explaining that Chan Sung Jung, better known as The Korean Zombie, had paid his way to this point for him to be in the UFC. Now, he has plans to build on that, “and deliver a championship belt to the Korean Zombie,” he stated via translator.
That certainly got a cheer out of the crowd!
