UFC bantamweights Petr Yan and Marcus McGhee have signed to fight and will meet in the octagon at UFC Abu Dhabi on July 26 sources tell Cageside Press.
McGhee (10-1) has been on a tear putting together four consecutive victories with three of those coming by finish. Last time out he took a decision over Jonathan Martinez at UFC 309 in November. He’s currently #13 in the UFC rankings.
The up-and-comer fighting out of The MMA Lab in Glendale, AZ shed the ‘prospect’ label with that run, and could turn into a contender with a win over Yan.
Yan (18-5) is the former UFC bantamweight champion taking the title over Jose Aldo at UFC 251. He lost it in his first title defense against Aljamain Sterling shortly after. Since that loss he’s gone 3-3 with an interim title win over Cory Sandhagen before losing against Sterling once again in the unification bout.
Currently on a two-fight win streak with victories over Song Yadong and Deiveson Figueiredo he looks to use a win over McGhee to earn a title shot.
UFC Abu Dhabi takes place on July 26 at Etihad Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The card as of now looks as follows:
- #5 Robert Whittaker vs. #13 Reinier de Ridder
- #2 Petr Yan vs. #13 Marcus McGhee
- Shara Magomedov vs. Marc-Andre Barriault
- #10 Nikita Krylov vs. #14 Bogdan Guskov
