UFC featherweight Mairon Santos felt so good at 155 pounds during his win over Sodiq Yusuff at UFC Vegas 106 on Saturday night that it might be tough to go back to 145.
Santos (16-1) is now 3-0 in the UFC with two of those fights at featherweight. The fight at lightweight against Yusuff however was a lot more fun that those cuts down to 145.
“So much easier. It was so easy oh my God. I don’t even like to remember my cut to 45,” Santos laughed during his post-fight scrum with Cageside Press and other media.
“Let’s see but it was good. I was smiling, I was able to drink to sip some water during the weight cut, things like that. It was fun.”
So is that going to make it hard to go back down to 145 pounds? Santos couldn’t help but laugh.
“I think so because I really like it. I felt good, I felt strong. When I looked (at him) on the other side of the cage I was like, ‘this guy’s not bigger than me’. When I was watching (his) fights and see like that I was like oh my God this guy’s so big compared to the other guys,” he said.
“But I was like oh he’s normal. I think he’s even smaller. I don’t know. Let’s see. I have to rest a little bit and then I will have the answer for this.”
Santos said he’d take some time off to heal and relax a bit, but he wants to return later on in 2025. With rumors of a UFC card in Brazil ‘The Legend’ shot his shot.
“In the end of the year maybe Brazil,” he said.
“I heard that’s going to be a card there. It would be nice to fight in Brazil, my hometown, but I want to take some time off. Since my TUF finale I’m very active so I want to take some time off. End the year with three fights.”
