UFC welterweight Gilbert Burns might be long in the tooth now going into his 24th UFC fight against Michael Morales at UFC Vegas 106 on Saturday night.
Burns (22-8) just isn’t ready to be done yet.
“I’m in love with MMA again, but I always was,” Burns told reporters on Wednesday.
“I don’t have freaking Michael Morales type fights coming up. That guy can do like 20 more fights. I don’t think I have all that. I got a couple more fights. Couple good fights.”
The longtime UFC vet comes in on a 3-fight losing skid dropping fights against Belal Muhammad, Sean Brady and new champ Jack Della Maddalena. The losses don’t bother him as much as the lackluster performances he feels he put on.
“I’m putting pressure on myself just because of my performance. I don’t think the last time I performed the way I want. Little problems, no excuse, had a little problem with my weight cut, my recovery,” he said.
“Sean Brady went there, did his thing, and then I had to change a lot of things and get here. I want to be here. The thing is not about Morales. It’s about me performing. I want to go there and put the work that I’ve been training. Excited to be here, be back, but show up. Put on a show,” said Burns
Still it’s not over for Burns. More fights are coming with Morales being first in line at UFC Vegas 106.
“I still got a little more ride. One fight at a time, but we still got a couple more fights,” he said.
