Featherweight Josh Emmett ends a self-imposed year-plus exile this week when he returns to action in the main event of UFC Vegas 105, where he takes on Lerone Murphy.
It’s fortuitous timing for Emmett – while his return has no doubt been in the works for months, as it happens, Ilia Topuria opted to vacate his featherweight title recently, leaving the belt vacant. Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes will face off in Miami later this month at UFC 314 (actually just a week after UFC Vegas 105), and the winner of Emmett and Murphy could be on the short list of future contenders with a big win.
England’s Murphy is undefeated through his 16-fight pro career, while the card also sees appearances from Brad Tavares, taking on fellow middleweight vet Gerald Meerschaert, Diana Belbita (in what could be her final fight), and TUF 32 Robert Valentin, among others.
