Mauricio Ruffy Wanted Green For His Second UFC Fight

UFC lightweight Mauricio Ruffy wanted a heavy-hitting matchup with a different 155ers, but gets the always tough and entertaining King Green at UFC 313 on Saturday night.

Green may not be Benoit Saint Denis, but he’s as tough of a warrior as they come.

“Listen this is a fight that I actually called out before. I told the team I want him for my second fight. Didn’t come in the second, come into the third” Ruffy told reporters including Cageside Press through a translator on Wednesday.

“Let’s get this job done. Very ready for it and very happy for the opportunity.”

Ruffy (11-1) and the Fighting Nerds have been known to be very calculated both in game planning, and picking opponents. Green for his second fight in the UFC may have been the ask, but it wasn’t random.

“Soon as I got into the UFC I started looking at the fights that would get me a title shot. I thought (he’s) a guy that’s got the experience. I figured that a win against him could propel me into new heights,” he said.

“I think it’s a fight that opens doors. Fighting him and beating him is a fight that just gets me to another level.”
