With Renato Moicano bumped up to the main event against Islam Makhachev at UFC 311, heavyweights Jailton Almeida and Serghei Spivac found themselves promoted to the main card.

Almeida had suffered his first loss in years (and just third overall) in 2024, losing to Curtis Blaydes at UFC 299, but had bounced back with a win over Alexandr Romanov in June. As for Spivac, “The Polar Bear” was 4-1 in his last five fights, with that lone loss coming against former interim champ Ciryl Gane.

Almeida started the fight pressing forward and initiated the clinch. Spivac was able to trip Almeida, throwing him to the canvas. “The Polar Bear” postured up looking to land huge ground and pound with damaging elbows from the top position. Spivac landed some good strikes before Almeida was able to reverse posistion and end up on top. Almeida transitioned to full mount but went for a rear naked choke allowing Spivac to get on top. With both fighters scrambling to their feet, Almeida landed a thunderous right hand that stunned Spivac.

Almeida then got Spivac to the ground and landed brutal ground and pound from back control that forced referee Jason Herzog to stop the contest. The Brazilian prospect got back into the win column with a TKO victory over another talented grappler. In his post fight interview Almeida asked for a performance bonus while calling for a fight with Ciryl Gane or another top fighter.

This was an impressive performance from Almeida who has now won back-to-back fights since losing to Curtis Blaydes.

Official Result: Jailton Almeida def. Serghei Spivac by TKO, Round 1, 4:53
