Santiago Ponzinibbio Wants Vicente Luque Matchup In Miami, Return To Argentina

Las Vegas – UFC welterweight Santiago Ponzinibbio turned back the clock as he scored a third round TKO victory over Carlston Harris at UFC Vegas 101 on Saturday night.

It’s a nice change for the Argentinian who has a bit of bad luck in decision fights.

“I say (during) the week we working to finish the fight,” Ponzinibbio told reporters including Cageside Press at his post-fight scrum.

“To not go to decision. That’s the work we did for this fight.”

Ponzinibbio (30-8) hasn’t had the best of luck in close fights. In his UFC run he’s gone to three split-decisions and lost all of them. Bouts with Geoff Neal, Michel Pereira and Muslim Salikhov frustrated the Argentinian so he made it a point to finish at UFC Vegas 101.

“Three split-decision(s). I’m so happy that I can do the work that we’re working with my team. I can finish the fight,” he said.

The victory may have shut down any talk among fans and media of Ponzinibbio hanging it up anytime soon. The welterweight is already making plans for a South Beach appearance at UFC 314.

So who’s the preferred dance partner?

“So many good names, so many good guys. Long time on the road like me. We can make a great fight,” he said.

“If I need to (think) quickly maybe Vicente Luque is a name that come into my mind. The guy have so many years in the sport like me. I have a lot of respect for him.”

Outside of Luque in Miami Ponzinibbio is really hoping to return home.

“That’s a dream (to take the UFC back to Argentina). Come back to Argentina, have a new generation coming, more guys probably is training and watching these guys,” he said.

“We need to continue growing the sport.”
